Senior Thesis: Lionfish

The venomous Lionfish, an invasive species to the Caribbean waters feeds on prey fish near an algae infested coral reef. As it goes for its next victim, a diver spears the Lionfish. My thesis focuses on the Lionfish Derbies of Key Largo, the methods of catching this fish, their effects on the environment, and their beauty. My inspiration was used, even through deciding my materials. I used fishing line as boning for my sheer corsets. I am using scuba fabric, and intentionally will be using elements seen in wetsuits as finishings. My organza and scuba fabrics are digitally printed with different types of Lionfish. For the early stages of my process, I attended two of these Lionfish Derbies, so some of my prints are photos I personally took.
